The sun is shining and after coffee I’ll do laundry which I will later hang on the clothes line to dry. I have no choice, I don’t have a clothes dryer here on the island. I sometimes love this fact and sometimes don’t.
Nothing ever feels 100% dry here, up on the hill. When I dry stuff (bikini and beach towel) at my namorado’s, on his clothes line on the other side of the island and at sea level, those items turn potato-chip crisp. But up here, the humidity rarely dips below 75-80% so yeah, some days I dream of pulling a fresh pile of t-shirts, shorts, jeans, and undies out of a dryer—warm, soft, fluffy… what a modern luxury.
In the meantime, I am grateful for the sun and wind. For clean water, for salt water. And for coffee. (Okay, don’t get me started on the coffee because I could kill for a bag of rich, complex, earthy beans from one of the many (overpriced) coffee joints back home.)
What do you miss, whether you are home, at another place you call home, or somewhere in between?
